Our Work in Our Communities
Bridging the Gap in Underserved Areas of North Dakota
At Journey Home Animal Rescue, we believe every pet deserves a chance. That’s why our work goes beyond rescuing as we also support the people and communities that love them. From helping pet owners access vet care to offering safe options for animals in need, we’re here to make a difference.
Unfortunately, many communities in North Dakota, especially rural and tribal areas, lack access to affordable spay/neuter services, vaccinations, and basic medical care. This gap leads to overpopulation, preventable suffering, and a cycle that impacts both animals and the people who care about them.
We are committed to changing that—with your help.

Vaccination Clinics
We help provide access to routine basic vaccinations that help protect pets from preventable diseases. We host at least one vaccination clinic each year with a team of dedicated volunteers, offering free vaccines to those who need them most. These clinics help ensure that pets stay healthy and reduce the spread of illness in the community.
Spay and Neuter Clinics
In partnership with other rescues, we help provide free spay and neuter services in underserved areas. In 2024, we helped over 100 cats and dogs receive surgery and vaccines. These clinics not only improve the health of individual pets but also help manage the population of unwanted animals in a humane way.

Pet Supply Pantry
When community members are in need of pet supplies, we help ensure their pet does not go with out. When our ability allows, we help with pet food, dishes, kennels, tie outs, collars, leashes and more.
Rescue Opportunity Event
Each fall, Journey Home Animal Rescue hosts a community rescue opportunity event to support pet owners who can no longer care for their animals or the strays they have been trying to help. These events provide a safe, judgment-free option for those facing difficult circumstances, ensuring their pets receive the care, shelter, and second chances they deserve.
Thanks to our rescue partners, surrendered animals are placed into loving foster homes or transferred to organizations better equipped to help them find forever families. In recent years, we’ve helped over 400 animals through this event by giving them warmth, safety, and a brighter future before winter arrives.

🩺 Calling All Veterinarians & Vet Techs
We are seeking veterinarians, vet techs, and medical support staff who are willing to donate their time and expertise at our mobile and pop-up veterinary clinics.
These clinics offer spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchipping, and urgent care services to communities with little to no veterinary access.
Whether you can commit to one day or an entire weekend, your time makes a life-saving difference.
➡️ If you or someone you know in the veterinary field is interested in volunteering at a future clinic, please email Leslie —we’ll cover your lodging and make sure you’re supported every step of the way.
💸 Help Sponsor a Clinic – Change a Community
These clinics are free to the public, thanks to generous donors and sponsors like you. But each one costs thousands of dollars to operate.
You can directly impact lives by helping us cover:

Surgical and medical supplies

Anesthesia and suture materials
-
Travel and lodging for veterinary teams
-
Equipment rentals and transport
-
Follow-up care and outreach
One weekend clinic might serve 100–150 animals. Every dollar you give helps prevent litters, stop disease, and offer hope.
