Meet Rian

Rian is not currently available for adoption, but this is to share a little about her journey.

Rian was one of two dogs Journey Home Animal Rescue was unable to catch during an Out of the Cold event. As the weeks passed, we couldn't stop thinking about her, how many harsh winters she had already endured and how many more litters she might be forced to have if nothing changed. She deserved warmth, safety, and a life where she no longer had to fend for herself.

In December, volunteers returned determined to bring both girls to safety. Thankfully, hunger worked in their favor, and it didn't take long for them to enter the traps. Once secured, they were loaded into a warm vehicle and almost immediately fell asleep. They were exhausted from surviving day after day, searching for food, water, and shelter.

For the first time in who knows how long, Rian was safe.

What we soon discovered was that Rian wasn't just a stray dog, she was truly feral. Human touch, indoor living, routines, and affection were all foreign concepts to her. Everything that comes naturally to most companion dogs is something Rian is learning for the very first time.

Today, Rian is living with a dedicated foster mom who is helping her navigate this new world. She is slowly learning that people can be kind, that houses are warm, and that she no longer has to be afraid every moment of every day. While she remains very timid and cautious, she is slowly making progress in her own time. Every small step is a victory.
