Meet Kaya 🐾

Kaya is a very sweet, gentle girl who is extremely shy and easily frightened by loud noises, sudden movements, and unfamiliar things. She came from a situation where she simply wasn’t exposed to very much, so the world can feel like a big and scary place to her right now. Even something as simple as turning on the TV can startle her.

But underneath that fear is a truly adorable little girl. When Kaya is excited to see you, she’ll wag her tail, and you can see those little moments of trust beginning to shine through. Sometimes, though, she may still get overwhelmed and retreat to the safety of her kennel.

Kaya seems especially attached to her sibling, Shawnee, and likes to stay close to her. She loves treats, although she can be a little picky about what she considers a good one! ❤️

Kaya will need a family who understands that trust takes time. She needs a very gentle, patient adopter who will remain calm, give her plenty of space, and allow her to get to know you at her own pace. She doesn’t need to be rushed—she needs someone willing to let her discover that the world can be a safe and wonderful place.

Having another calm, confident dog in the home may also help Kaya feel more secure and learn by watching her canine companion.

I truly believe Kaya will come out of her shell with time, patience, love, and understanding. Right now, everything feels huge and scary to her, but every little tail wag, every step out of her kennel, and every moment she chooses to stay close is a sign that she is learning to trust.

Kaya is not yet house trained, and it may take her some time to learn. Her adopter will need to be patient and willing to work with her as she learns this important skill.

Kaya has so much potential. She just needs someone willing to give her the time and gentle guidance she deserves. ❤️🐾
