Iris is a joy to have in our household. She’s still working on confidence when meeting new canine friends, but has been great with them once she’s familiar with their smell. Like a lot of huskies, she can be a little vocal when she’s feeling lonely. But, unlike the stereotypes, she is an amazingly quiet companion during the day. She sits on the couch in our home office all day and rarely makes a peep, even when she can hear strange voices on conference calls. She’s had zero potty accidents inside and is already showing some understanding of our directional commands to assist with her vision impairment.
Iris is an absolute cuddle bug. The couch is definitely her favorite place, and she always wants a snuggle buddy. She’s even let our four-year-old take a nap on her and barely moved an inch until he woke up! After a few days in her foster home, she was comfortable enough to start eating out of a bowl instead of on a mat, but seems to be a snacker so we do have to put her food away if the other dogs are out.
Because she is blind, Iris does best when things are pretty stationary in her environment (floor isn’t too cluttered, furniture isn’t moving around too much, food and water stays in one place, etc.) and uses her ears and nose to understand who and what is in her environment. Continuing training on vocal commands will help ensure Iris can navigate her surroundings without bonking her head or tripping. Iris will make an incredible love bug for the family who welcomes her into their home!
Iris is blind and it doesn't slow her down too much.
