Meet Cottonball

Cottonball is a delicate little 6-month-old Maltese mix weighing just 8 pounds, with a soft, cloud-like coat and a gentle spirit to match her name. Like her sibling Q-tip, she came from a breeder release situation and is still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place.

Cotton Ball is the more reserved of the two sisters, preferring to observe quietly from a distance as she takes everything in. She is very shy and still fearful of human touch and right now, she is not comfortable being petted or picked up. But beneath that timid exterior is a sweet soul who just needs time, patience, and understanding to come out of her shell.

While people can be a bit overwhelming, Cottonball does find comfort in her canine friends. Having a confident, friendly dog in the home will be essential to help her build trust and learn by example. And like many pups, food is a great motivator and definitely perks up at mealtime, giving a small glimpse of her growing confidence.

Cottonball is looking for a calm, patient home with a securely fenced yard where she can feel safe as she navigates her new life. Her ideal family will understand that progress may be slow, but every small step forward is a big victory.

With gentle guidance and a canine companion by her side, Cottonball has the potential to blossom into a quietly devoted and loving companion. She may not be ready for cuddles just yet, but with time, she’ll learn that love isn’t so scary after all.

I am a puppy mill release and have likely been starved from human affection as a puppy. Therefore, I am going to require extra patience as I am not a typical puppy.

Cottonball came to us very under socialized from humans - she is scared of human touch currently. She will need an adopter that is able to provide her a safe place and help her confidence grow. For her, this may look like containing her to a smaller enclosed area in a room in the home for several days to a week - where she would have an area to potty here also - so that she can more easily and safely be picked up. She will want to run/avoid being picked up. She will also initially be a flight risk, so taking her outside to potty will not be safe for at least several weeks. Eventually, when she does fully trust you and have a strong bond with you, bringing her outside should consist of 2 leashes and tightly secured collars (with possibly a no slip harness lead) to help ensure she cannot get away.
