Journey Home Animal Rescue
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Journey Home Animal Rescue. Our goal is to adopt pets into forever loving homes to responsible adults. We are an all volunteer ran organization that strives to find great matches for all approved applicants, in hopes to set both families and pets up for success. We strictly adhere to our adoption policy to help make this possible.
Requirements to Adopt
All applicants must be over the age of 18 years old.
All pets residing in the home MUST be current on vaccinations and spayed/neutered, unless veterinarian recommended otherwise. (Please double check vaccination status before applying). This includes pets belonging to roommates or other household members.
All adopted pets are to be indoor family pets, with the exception of evaluated barn cats. Our pets are adopted to be part of the indoor family, not garage or outdoor pets.
If you do not personally own your home, ensure with your landlord or the home owner that you are allowed to have a pet.
All adopters must agree to either attend training classes with their adopted pet or do at home training within 8 months of adoption. (dogs only)
All adopters must seek professional help for behavior or medical concerns if/when needed.
If you live within city limits, verify your specific city limits before applying.
If you are applying to adopt outside the Greater Grand Forks area, please note: You must be willing to travel to the Grand Forks, ND area to pick up or meet the animal. If flying with your pet, the animal must NOT be flown as cargo.
Journey Home Animal Rescue reserves the right to deny any applications that we deem unfit or unsuitable for the animal.
By completing the adoption application, you are applying to adopt through Journey Home Animal Rescue. Once you are approved, we will work with you to find the best fit for your home and vice versa. For the best match, please let us know which pet and/or qualities you are looking for in your future pet.
Research and plan. Bringing a new pet into your family and home is extremely exciting decision. We want to help prepare you and the pet for success and make sure the decision is well thought out. Have a plan for what you will do in cases of an emergency, when you are going to vacation, and/or doing obedience classes with your newly adopted pet, etc.
Review and agree to the Adoption Requirements (above).
We will carefully review your application, complete background checks, call veterinary references, landlords, and personal references. We contact your veterinary and personal references to ensure all current and/or deceased pets were properly taken care of, including current on all vaccinations and altered. We require all animals in the home to be either spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations. Journey Home Animal Rescue reserves the right to deny any applications that we deem unfit or unsuitable for the animal. This process can take approximately 10-14 days or more at times.
Complete an adoption application. If you have additional questions on specific pets, it is best to fill out an application as this will initiate communication. The adoption application is for you to tell us about yourself, the environment your pet will be living in, and your lifestyle. We would like to know as much as we can to help ensure a good match for a successful, lifelong relationship.
The applicant will be contacted for a home visit by an authorized Journey Home Animal Rescue representative. This is an informal opportunity for us to get to know you and answer additional questions you may have.
After the above steps are completed and processed, you will receive an email of approval or denial. An approved application means you can adopt from Journey Home. It does not always mean you will be adopting the animal applied for.
Adopt! After your application is approved we will arrange for you to meet the pet and if it's a good match, to adopt. Don't forget a collar, ID tag, leash, and kennel. We love hearing updates on Journey Home adopted pets and will always be available to help answer any questions, make training recommendations, and assist you in providing the forever loving home for your new pet.
